3. HHA – Home Health Aides health care tasks, personal hygiene services and other supportive services essential to the patient’s health. Medication Reminders & Assistance, Dressing Assistance, Assistance to Medical Appointments, Picking Up Prescriptions, Assistance with Walking and Movement, Monitoring Food Expirations, Bed Bound Assistance & Care and many more.

4. PCA – Personal Care Aides – assistance to the patient with personal hygiene, dressing, feeding and household tasks essential to his/her health.

5. Homemakers– assistance and instruction in managing and maintaining a household, dressing, feeding and incidental household tasks for person at home because of illness, incapacity or the absence of a caretaker relative.

6. Housekeepers– the provision of light work or household tasks which do not require the services of a trained homemaker. Light Housekeeping & Laundry, Meal Preparation and Clean Up, Assisting with Pet Care.

2. LPNs – License Practical Nurses-a person who is licensed and currently register as a licensed practical nurse pursuant to Article 139 of the New York State Education Law.

The bathroom and the kitchen are not the only places where your family member can get hurt. Most households have other danger zones as well.  Controlling access to these areas becomes an issue sooner or later in most care-giving households.

So, what to do? You may want to make some areas in your home “off-limits”, such as outside doors, stairways, closets and other places where important or potentially harmful materials are stored.  On the other hand, you may want to improve access to some areas – making tubs and showers more accessible or making stairways and outside steps easier to use.  As a rule of thumb, try to improve access in areas that encourage the person to do things independently as long as it is safe. Limit access when the family member’s abilities and understanding have diminished to the point that he or she needs supervision to be in an area!
